Also referred to as the silent killer, hypertension (high blood pressure – BP) affects roughly 65 million adults in the United States alone. The World Health Organization reports that this condition is responsible for up to 12.8% of all death annually worldwide. It presents next to no symptoms yet causes significant damage to the human body including death. Lisinopril is one of the most widely prescribed drugs for treating these conditions. How to use Lisinopril
Lisinopril must be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Doses will vary according to your health and the discretion of the doctor. It is not recommended for children under 6 years old.
Swallow Lisinopril tablets with plenty of water at the same time daily. Do not take double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet. Skip this tablet and take the next one as scheduled. In case of overdose, contact the nearest hospital casualty department immediately.
High Blood Pressure
If you have high blood pressure then you are normally given 10 mg of Lisinopril daily. This may be increased to 80 mg. If you are currently using diuretics, then you may be advised to stop using it before beginning your Lisinopril treatment.
Heart Failure
This is usually prescribed with diuretic (water tablet) and other medicines to reduce heart function. Initial dosage is 2.5 mg daily with a maximum dose of 35 mg.
Post Heart Attack
The initial dose for this is 5 mg and 5 mg after 24 hours. Another dose of 10 mg will follow after 24 hours and 10 mg daily for up to 6 weeks thereafter.
